    You would have a hard time showing that the U.S. economic fever has spread to Canada with this morning's data releases. U.S. slowdowns typically hit the Canadian economy with somewhat of a lag, however. In this light, it might not be that surprising that the Canadian economy actually kicked off the year with gusto. After a strong labour force survey released earlier this morning (see our employment commentary for details), CMHC also reported that housing starts were back on track in January.
